The organization of functioning political parties is needed to fight poverty and promote democracy; the more people  get involved in political parties, the better democracy works. For political parties to contribute to democratic development, they must be democratically structured, equal, and inclusive. Furthermore, they must be stronger than their leaders.

Therefore, the Palme Center supports:

- the strengthening of political party organization and the development of democratic and effective progressive parties around the world
- the strengthening of cooperation between social movements and civil societies on the one hand, and political parties on the other hand
- attempts to engage and participate in party politics specifically by women, the young, and the vulnerable (such as migrant workers and people in the informal sector)
