Welcome to Global Respect

Global Respect

All people are created equal. This means we have the same rights, regardless of whom we are and where we come from. This is what Global Respect is all about.
This initiative is about human rights and workplace rights in particular. We do not just see these rights as a goal but as a powerful tool for combating poverty in the world.

What does Global respect aim to achieve?
We live in a time when the large institutions of the world talk optimistically of solving widespread global problems such as famine, poverty, disease and injustice. But the debate often focuses on the necessity of economic growth in poor countries, witch we think is insufficient. Fundamental social and economic rights are a prerequisite for bringing about change.
We believe that strengthening workplace rights, i.e. collective bargaining and the rights to form trade unions, will greatly improve the situation for all peoples throughout the world. It is only then that people will have the tools they require to change their own situation. We aim to achieve this by spreading knowledge and awareness.

What does Global Respect do?
Our main aim is to spread information and initiate debate. This we achieve through our study circle, to which we hope to attract as many people as possible to study individually or in groups. The English version has been available on the Internet since the summer 2004.
Another important part of our work is to arrange lectures, seminars and courses.
Global Respect is directed at anyone with an interest in globalisation issues and is financed by the European Commission, The Swedish Trade Union Federation (LO) and The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (Sida).
