Application for 2009-2010

As the Palme Centre was only granted funds for one year on the last application, i.e. for 2008, a new application will be made to Sida for 2009-2010. This will be based on the previous application, which means that organisations which applied for funds for three years (i.e. 2008/2009/2010) only need to submit supplementary information. New applications will also be accepted (for a two year period, 2009-2010), but it is unclear at the time of writing how much financial scope there will be for such new projects.

The Palme Centre is currently working on developing strategies for the respective regions, which will mean a concentration both in regard to the number of countries and fields of activity on which the Centre will focus. It is important to contact the applications administrator and discuss project ideas so that you do not waste time on something for which it is clear already now that it will be impossible to apply for funding.

The following criteria apply for organisations that wish to apply for funding from the Palme Centre. The applicant organisation must:
1.
be an organisation with an idealistic or cooperative focus whose activities are based on democratic values and characterised by openness and responsibility.
2. firstly, be a membership-based organisation whose members represent the target group which the Palme Centre wishes to support. Secondly, be a professional organisation (NGO) that works actively to support and strengthen popular movements.
3. be registered as a non-government organisation with the authorities. Exceptions to this criterion will be decided by the head of operations.
4. have carried on documented operations for a period of at least one year. In exceptional cases, organisations in the process of being built up and informal structures, for example networks, may be considered as local partners if their actual democratic character and idealistic or cooperative focus can be demonstrated. Decisions in this respect will be made by the head of operations.
5. be able to present approved financial accounts for the previous year. Exceptions to this criterion will be decided by the head of operations.
6. work for the development of society on a democratic basis.
7. be able to assume responsibility for the proposed project operations and have the required personnel and financial recourses.
8. not be a political party. This requirement does not apply to so-called party-associated organisations, e.g. a party’s women’s association. Special regulations apply for information regarding party-specific democracy funding. Read more about this at www.palmecenter.org/
